Matthijs is an all-round tax lawyer who specializes in corporate and personal income tax. He has in-debt knowledge and a proven track record in fund formation and (international) carried interest programs.

His clients include (international) private equity houses and corporations (mainly private equity-owned) with a presence in the Netherlands. Clients describe Matthijs as hands-on, knowledgeable, creative and pragmatic.

Matthijs has recently been involved in:

• Acquisitions by Standard Investment (Staples, Riedel add-ons)
• The establishment of Quadrum Investment Fund III (EUR 250 million)
• The acquisition of Celestia Technologies Group by Waterland Private Equity Investments

Matthijs studied Corporate Law at Utrecht University and Tax Law at the University of Amsterdam. He is a member of the Tax Committee of the NVP (the Dutch private equity and venture capital association) and is also a member of the Dutch Association of Tax Advisors (NOB). He is a Board member of the Balsewa Foundation, a non-profit foundation that operates a school in Nepal. In 2018, 2019 and 2022 he was nominated by Alex van Groningen for "Best M&A Tax Advisor''. In addition, Matthijs is mentioned by Chambers Europe and The Legal 500 as notable tax practitioner.
